Mark Nenadov

Carrion, carrion!
You’ve landed—but you must carry on
the side of the road isn’t the spot
for a feathered warrior.

Soar on
my friend
your wing shows a gap
a lost battle perhaps
you must fly on
before it happens again.

Sadly you patrol the clear blue paths
once again, once again
no sign of weakness
but for a weather worn gait.

This cruel earth shows no love to you
no fear to speak of
but you patrol boldly
soar on, soar on
feathered warrior.

Where do you go beyond the roof
of clear blue sky?
Where do you lay your head
as the world stands aloof?
